Man wanted for murder in Alabama arrested here

Deputies with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office arrested a man at the north bound rest area Tuesday morning after he called a 911 dispatcher and stated that he had killed his mother in Gadsden, Alabama and stole her car.

Richard Keith Garmon, age 41, of 309 Wildhaven Circle, in Gadsden, Alabama, was arrested after a check of NCIC showed that he was wanted in connection with the death of his mother.

Deputies took him into custody about 4:30 AM at the rest area.

Garmon is being held in the Detention Center awaiting extradition to Alabama.
