Woman and child Kidnapped in Blacksburg
On Wednesday night at 7:30 PM, Deputies responded to a reported kidnapping
and shooting on Kyle Drive in Blacksburg.
When Deputies arrived, witnesses stated that Kelli Sharee Camp and her 6
month old son arrived at her mother's home in a car driven by a friend,
Randy Moss.
When they drove up to the house, according to Moss, two subjects pulled in,
beat him with a shotgun, and forcibly took Kelli Camp and her child, fired
several rounds into Moss' vehicle and fled the scene.
While Detectives were on the scene, Sheriff Blanton and other Detectives
were at the Sheriff's Office gathering information on the two suspects, one
being a former boyfriend of Kelli Camp.
Deputies were also trying to contact the two suspects through a cell number
provided by a witness. During this time, information was being provided to
SLED to activate the Amber Alert.
Sheriff Blanton had spoken to family members of the two suspects and finally
talked to one of the suspects about 9:30 PM. The suspect let the Sheriff
talk to Kelli Camp, who said that they were OK and were somewhere in North
Carolina.
After three hours of negotiation through a cell phone, one of the suspects
agreed to turn himself in and bring Kelli Camp and the child back. He turned
himself in to Deputies at the Blacksburg Police Department at 2:00 AM.
Both Camp and the child were OK and went to stay with a friend in North
Carolina.
Arrested at the Police Department was Kevin Snipes, age 36, of 2731 Gates
Rd. in Lincolnton, NC. He is being held in the Cherokee County Detention
Center and is currently charged with kidnapping and will face other charges
including Assault and Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature.
Police are still looking for the boyfriend, Randolph Waterson, of
Lincolnton, NC. Waterson, who has a lengthy criminal record, has also been
charged with Kidnapping, and is also wanted on other unrelated charges in
another state.
Last night, police in Lincoln County and Cherryville, NC were attempting to
locate Waterson. The shotgun has not been recovered.
The Amber Alert was not activated.
