Sheriff's Run for the Relay rescheduled

In honor of Sheriff Bill Blanton's wife, Pam, and others who are currently undergoing treatments for cancer, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is planning a special motorcycle rally on Saturday, May 7, to raise money for "Relay for Life" for cancer research.

To be called the "Sheriff's Run for the Relay," the rally is open to anyone who would like to ride along. Motorcycles are asked to be at the Sheriff's Office at 9:00 AM and they will pull out promptly at 9:30 AM. A $10 donation per bike is requested, but is not required to ride.

The motorcycle entourage will travel from Gaffney to Kings Mountain Battlefield and then on to "T-Bones Restaurant" on Lake Wylie where they will have lunch. The group will then return to Gaffney via a different scenic route. Aside from Pam Blanton, another female county employee is involved with a serious battle with cancer, Sheriff Blanton pointed out, and he and other Sheriff's Office personnel felt motivated to raise money for needed cancer research. "If this works out and we can raise some money for Relay for Life, we'll try to make this an annual event," the Sheriff said.

For those who don't ride motorcycles or can't go along Saturday, donations can still be made to the fund. Simply make tax deductible checks out to "Relay for Life" and bring them by the Sheriff's Office, give them to any Deputy, or mail them to the Sheriff's Office, 312 E. Frederick St., Gaffney, SC, 29340.
