Information needed in local man's death

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a local man found on the side of Bonner Road on July 9 at approximately 7:00 AM.

Joe Cash Westbrooks, age 83, was found on the side of Bonner Road by a passer-by and had cuts and abrasions to his body. He was transported to Spartanburg Regional Hospital and died Sunday night. The South Carolina Highway Patrol was first called and has been investigating it as a possible hit and run. The investigation has determined it was not a hit and run.

The investigation was turned over to the Sheriff's Office today and Detectives are interviewing any possible witness.

An autopsy is being performed today to help determine the cause of death.

Mr. Westbrooks was last seen near his home at 566 Bonner Road sitting on the side of the road at approximately 6:00 AM on July 9.
