Persons arrested for gambling at Internet Cafe
Deputies with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office and the State Law Enforcement Division seized over 70 computers, screens, other hardware, and $2600 from two locations after undercover SLED agents played the machines and were paid, in cash, after winning.
Agents played different games on computers at what are now being called "internet cafes".
Two people were arrested and two others were written citations at Gameland Bingo Internet Cafe located at 113 N. Granard St. and at Possum Corner Internet Cafe located at 530 S. Granard St. in Gaffney by Detective Joey Guyton.
Charged with operating a "Gaming House" are James Melvin Hicks Jr., age 43, of 317 Hillcrest Dr. Gaffney, operating at Possum Corner. Also, Norman Childers, age 58, of 303 Natures Trail, Gaffney, operating at Gameland Bingo Internet Cafe.
Citations were issued for gambling against Tommy Fisher Devore, age 40, of 598 Lyman St., Gaffney, and Jack Rice, age 58, of 110 Westland Dr., Gaffney.
The S.C. Attorney Generals Office will prosecute these cases.
Both subjects arrested were released on bond.
