Five men arrested for selling counterfeit DVDs

Detectives with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office arrested five men today and charged them with "sale and distribution of counterfeit DVD motion picture movies". The crime is a felony and carries a 5 year and/or $250,000 fine.

The men were arrested at Burr's Trading Post, better known as the Chesnee Flea Market, on Oconee Street in Chesnee.

The arrest follows a two month investigation involving the Sheriff's Office and representatives of the motion picture industry.

The counterfeit DVD movies, better known as "bootleg movies", were being sold at Burr's Trading Post by the five subjects, at three different tables. Some of the movies have not been released for DVD sale yet and are now just being released to movie theaters.

In addition to the arrest and seizure of approximately 500 movies, some pornographic, five vehicles were also seized.

More charges are expected and all are being held in the detention center awaiting bond hearings.
